Farm to School Teacher Workshop

Isaac Dickson Elementary Monday, July 24 th 2006

Asheville , NC

The sign outside the cafeteria door read “enter quietly”. And they all did at first, obeying the signs and listening intently. Yet within the hour they were up out of their chairs making salsa or brainstorming how they could make a fieldtrip to a local goat dairy fulfill math and social studies requirements. This workshop was not one to sit back and take notes, but a chance to get your hands dirty.

Over twenty teachers, nutritionist, farmers and educators participated in this hands on workshop illustrating how to put Farm to School into action. Choosing between classes such as The ABCs of Gardening, Farm Forays and Classroom Cooking, participants spent half a day learning from ASAP staff, local farmers, parents, and other teachers. Enthusiasm and evaluations were high, hopefully leading to some new ideas sprouting up in classrooms this fall.

Check the ASAP calendar for upcoming and future workshop!
